Okay, so how does someone gain weight?

(This question was posed by a 19-year-old young man.)

Well, I must say, you are in a position many people would envy. You need to be consistent with your diet & eat well over 3000 calories per day to gain weight. It will happen eventually. Exercise so it doesn't all become fat; otherwise you may as well just go & eat a big tub of lard.
